SAD (B) vice-president Jagdev Singh Talwandi handed over the letters of possession to the beneficiaries at a function held at the village yesterday. Ironically, a large number of beneficiaries have expired. Talwandi said the cases of the remaining scheduled caste families would also be expedited and the plots would be given out of the nine acres of panchayat land available for the purpose. He said the SAD-BJP government had been building houses for the homeless Harijan families. No predecessor government did that job, he claimed. Referring to the villagers' demand, he said the village road upto Gurdwara Mehtiana Sahib would be metalled. Talwandi also announced a grant of Rs 4 lakh for the pavement of the village streets and the construction of drains. Earlier, he inaugurated a month-long van mahotsav at Hathur village. During the mahotsav, which has been organised by the Youth Welfare Club, about one lakh saplings would be planted in 60 villages of Raikot Assembly constituency. About 2000 saplings were planted on this occasion. |
